LEVEL IV

Hi! This post is about English as a subject.

Well, to start, I really like English; I have always felt it like a second language.

I don’t really know how is the English that is taught in the whole university, but at least in this faculty is very basic, is hard to believe that this is English level IV and that it is the final level.

If this is English IV we should probably have like another four levels, truth to be told, I enter this class in level III and I still have not learned a thing that I didn’t know already.

The blogs are a good learning tool, it obligates the student to really look for the words and how they are written, but that is not the only thing that we should learn.

The basics should be repeated until the last level because is clearly what everyone (including me) forget.

I think that I need to improve the basics of my English, I kind of learned by myself so there are a lot of things that I don’t really know. The thing is that I don’t know what because I feel like I have never been on a real English class from the beginning, so I just stick to learn more vocabulary.

On the other side, my pronunciation is not good, but I always try to speak English at least once a day, I usually speak it at home with my brother or at university with my best friend but it is never enough.

Another way to improve my pronunciation is by singing, I really like to sing so I kind of do it all day.

I need to learn a lot more; I want to do the TOEFL at some point, but with this public education I am never going to pass it. That’s why I want to register in some English institute, but not now, I don’t have the money.

My year

Hi, this is the blog session 10, and today I’m going to talk about this year, so
this post is going to be more like a reflection.

This year was a little bit numb; I concentrated myself in university so I could
get good grades, and I did it.

This year on my extracurricular activities (like scout) was good, we got a new
school, more kids and more monitors.

Also I got a job this year, so that was kind of good because the money I earned
helped me a lot for materials for the career, and I was able to save some for
future expenses.

In the summer I’m planning on getting a second job, money is always well
received, and the truth is that I need more because photographic equipment is
expensive.

My principal achievement still has not happened because I’m still saving
money. I want to buy a professional camera by the end of the year, so I can
start a new one with a new toy.

I’m thinking on getting a Canon t4 but I’m not sure, maybe I’m going to buy a
Canon 50D.

Some of the things that I did not do were do more exercise, I mean, I’m actually
doing Pilates but I should have done that since the beginning of the year.

On the big news, on Friday I’m going to start going to zumba so I can move a
little, I know it is a little bit late in the year but it is never late.

Another of my news is that I’m using my bike again, I lent it to one of my
friends and she finally gave it back to me, that makes me really happy.

Free post 2

This is a really late post and it is about anything that I want, it’s a free post, so
today I’m going to talk about how much I like flowers.

Flowers are very important in my family; my grandmother has a garden full of
beautiful and colourful flowers.

She got them all when she was young, my grandfather an her used to travel
around Chile in a car, so she always bought the seeds of the most lovely
flowers.

The garden have not only flower but threes and some fruits and veggies, for
example she have a magnolia (that it is my favourite three ever) she also have
beans, pumpkins, tomatoes, etc.

My grandfather was a doctor and he really liked the love in the life in the
nature, we even used to be a boy scout when he was young.

So with the traveling of my grandparents around the country looking for nature,
they came back home with a lot of what they found.

One of my aunts is a science teacher and she used to take me (as a child) in
long strolls in wherever we were: forest, the beach, etc.

On those long strolls she used to show me and teach me all she could, in fact,
she still does it.

My mother and brother also take a lot of care of the garden because they love
it too, taking care of flowers and plants in general is almost like a familiar
activity because is relaxing and we do not lose anything if we do it togheter

GREEN

This is the post number nine and I'm going to talk about the environment we live in.

I think that we all lear about the environment in the scientific matters in school but not everyone knows where/how to take care of nature.

I can’t say that recycling is a common practice in my life, but with my family we always try to do something as long it does not involve spending money

I’m not pretty sure but I believe that we been doing compost for 5 years, that way we reduce our garbage and we do something good whit the organic waste.

The compost we made is usually used in the veggies that have planted in our garden.

Another way to not contaminate is by using a bike, which I use, but just for short distance because I do not have any kind of safety equipment.

I know some things and techniques to take care of our environment but they are more applicable in “wild life” because I learned them in Scout, and because of that they are for when we go camping.

For example, I know how to filtrate water for when you are taking a shower, so the shampoo and soap do not affect on the earth or the space where you are standing.

All what I writhed is pretty much what I do to reduce my carbon footprint that indeed is not much.

I believe that what we need as society for taking care of our environment is a much better education about the subject, we sould have much better state programs about ecology.

Gorillaz

Hi! Today in this new free post I’m going to talk about one of my favorite bands ever!

The name is Gorillaz and it is a virtual band, where every single member of it is a cartoon character developed only for the band.

The lead voice, keyboard and melodica of Gorillaz is called 2D or two dents, but I think his real name is Stuart Pot, he is a male on his twenties with blue hair, no eyes and with two missing teeth’s.

The real person who brings 2D voice to live (but only for the songs) is Damon Albarn, the vocalist of the British band Blur and so many other bands

The bass guitar and drum machine is played by Murdoc Niccals and he is sort of the devil spam on Earth, he is 47 years old (or something like that)

Murdoc is voiced by Phil Cornwell and the real bass is played by numerous other bass players

The guitar, keyboard and occasional vocals are made by Noodles, a little Japanese girl who came to London in a FedEx box, since Noodle is Japanese she never speaks because she does not know how to.

The Last member of the band is Russel Hobbs and he plays the drums and percussion, he is a big, fat and black man that is usually possessed by Del, a blue rapping ghost.

Gorillaz is an English musical and visual project created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, the last one is the one that drew all of the characters.

The Bright side of the Bronx

Today I’m going to do a summary from a career related article that you can find in the online page of “The Guardian”

The article talks about a photographer named Wayne Lawrence and his last book of photography where he created an archive of pictures of the only public beach of the Bronx in New York City.

Lawrence did not take the advice about not going to the south Bronx; he did not care about the bad reputation of the people that lives in there, in fact, that was the most attractive for him.

In the two pictures that we are able to see in the article, we can see how he took the pictures of what is considered as the most lowly that you can find in that state and make it beautiful.

The photographs are very attractive, they are colourful and sincere, you can see the personalities of the models just by the looks of them.

The portraits dignified their models, and as the article say:

Lawrence's work reinforces the fact that striking, honest images can change people's expectations. Framed in a spare, frontal manner, there's rare raw emotional cadence here, and each portrait is a willful look at vulnerability”

Lawrence was born in St Kitts and he regard himself as an “immigrant artist”, that’s why he want to dignified the people in his portraits, he’s just like the people in his pictures “ (…)I committed myself to using photography as a tool to confront long-standing ideas about race and class."

Free Topic: Pets!

Today I have the opportunity to tell all of you about whatever I want, so, in this case, I’m going to talk about the pets that I had have in the past (and the one that I have in the present).

In my entire life I have had three pets, one kitty, one hamster and a pair of birds.

My first pet was a kitty, the story of how I got it is quite funny, because when I was like six years old I was walking with my big brother and we passed a house with this little baby kitty. It was so cute and tiny that we couldn’t help ourselves and just stole it. We had it just for a couple of months until one of our neighbours saw the cat in our fence and, just like us, he stole it, so basically the cat grow old in the house next door.

The second pet was a female hamster, she was a little bit crazy and really smart (and suicidal too). She learnt how to open her cage so she could run away (she never make it far, we always caught her), after opening the gate she used to run until the end of the table where she was and just jump to the nearest curtain, once she was there, she jumped from it to the ground. Thanks Alá we always got her on time.

The last ones were a couple of birds, actually I just have one because one of them died from a heart attack. They were Diamantes Mandarines, very cute and fat, the one that’s still alive is Pancaca, the male of the two.
